Vic Allen är en ung tjej från Norwich och hon gav i januari ut sitt första fullängds-album, efter att tidigare gett ut några EP och singlar från 2016 och framåt. Hon berättade för mig, i pausen på framträdandet på Half Moon, att hon är mycket stolt över skivan. Det är lätt att förstå. Den är inspelad i Nashville och det märks på hur den är snyggt producerad med mycket varierande och tätt sound.
Det är sällan man hör en debutskiva med så varierande arrangemang och så hög kvalitet på låtmaterialet. Hennes egna favoriter, John Mayor och James Taylor, har inspirerat henne att jobba med sina egna texter.
Antar att hennes sånger kan kallas folkmusik eller singer-songwriter när hon framför dem själv, här blir det mer pop och country. Jag kanske tycker att en del låtar hade vunnit på att vara lite mer lågmälda, men det spelar ingen större roll när resultatet blir så här lyckat.
Vic beskriver sig själv som en rastlös själ och det märks tydligt i hennes texter. De handlar mycket om kärlek och relationer som inte fungerade så bra, men det finns också några sånger om förhållanden som faktiskt fungerar och det känns uppflytande.
"Healing" är en av skivans höjdpunkter:
Vic Allen har faktiskt lite anknytning till Sverige, då hennes bror bor i Falun. Han har fotat bilderna på omslaget och andra bilder på Vic.

It was recorded in Nashville and you can tell by how nicely it is produced with a varied and tight sound.
It is rarely you hear a debut album with so varied arrangements and such high quality of the songs. Her own favourites, John Mayor and James Taylor, have inspired her to work hard with her own lyrics.
I guess her songs could be called folk or singer-songwriter when she performs them alone, here it's more pop and country. I might believe that some of the songs would have benefited from being a little more low-key, but it doesn't matter so much when the result is like this.
Vic describes herself as a restless soul and it is clearly visible in her lyrics. They're a lot about love and relationships that don't work out so well, but there are also some songs about when it actually works and it feels uplifting.
"Healing" is one of the album's highlights:
Vic Allen actually has some connection to Sweden, as her brother lives in Falun. He has taken the pictures on the cover and other pictures of Vic.
